COVID-19 Update 12-28-2020
Dear MCOB District Families and Students:
I hope everyone is safe and healthy! We completed a challenging 1st semester amidst the pandemic. Thank you to all for your patience and understating as we continue to provide education to students while also trying to keep everyone healthy and safe.
The community spread in our area is significant and we have considered all options presented on how to proceed during 2nd Semester. My top priorities are to provide as much in-person education for our students as possible and do this in a safe manner. With these priorities in mind, I proposed changes to our 2nd Semester Calendar. The attached calendar was officially adopted on December 21st, 2020. Below are the major changes.
Extended Winter Break – January 4th to February 16th
Onsite support services for limited students (no academic requirements) – January 6th to January 15th
Winter Intercession (similar to summer school) - limited students - academic support and onsite support services – January 19th to February 12th
2nd Semester – February 16th to June 30th (no spring break)
Beginning on January 6th we will make every effort to individually “check-in” with students on a regular basis via phone and virtually. We strongly believe in continuing to support our students during the extended Winter Break. Meals will be provided and delivered for any student requesting meals from January 6th to February 12th.
COVID-19 Community Spread data will be reviewed at the beginning of February to determine if the start of 2nd Semester on February 16th will be in-person or virtual learning.
Our best hope for this adjusted calendar is that we can safely provide in-person learning as many days as possible in the spring and summer. Our intent is to limit disruptions and do our best to avoid changing from in-person learning to virtual learning as much as we possibly can. We appreciate your continued patience and understanding!
MCOB Elementary and Villa Oasis principals will provide more detailed information for students and parents as we implement the new calendar for 2nd semester. This continues to be a challenging and fluid situation for everyone, please contact me directly at 520-483-1562 or mbassett@pinalk12.org with questions, comments, or suggestions. I update the COVID-19 Resources webpage with any new information I receive.
We appreciate your support and will continue to work diligently to prioritize the academic success, and health and welfare of our students, families, and community.
Please continue to practice the identified measures you have taken during this pandemic to keep your families healthy and safe. Happy New Year to all!
Sincerely,
Marty Bassett
Superintendent
