COVID-19 Update 8-6-2020
August 6, 2020
Dear MCOB District Families and Students:
My hope is that everyone is staying healthy and taking care of your family. I wanted to communicate the latest information that was released by the Arizona Department of Health Services and Arizona Department of Education today (August 6, 2020). The metrics/benchmarks document is titled – Safely Returning to In-peron Instruction. Based on the current information we will begin the school year on August 17th with virtual learning. We will review these benchmarks each week when released and make a determination when we can begin in-person instruction. When a decision to return to in-person learning based on the metrics/benchmarks is made we will communicate with you as soon as possible.
Your school will contact you with details on device distribution and school schedules for virtual learning.
Governor Ducey’s Executive Orders require schools to offer limited on-site supervision for students in need, beginning on August 17th. Please call the MCOB Elementary office 520-4504400 or the Villa Oasis office 520-450-4450 for details on the on-site supervision. Students in need of on-site supervision will be learning virtually, supervised by a staff member. We have limited capacity for on-site supervision and may need to prioritize students based on needs. When we have a list of students/parents requesting this support we will communicate the details, including potential transportation to and from the on-site supervision.
Please review the Continuity of Operations Plan for a safe return to campus. This comprehensive document includes our mitigation plans and incorporates best practices that can be implemented, as well as key recommendations from health and government officials to prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff, and community. Please check the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) for health and safety measures, communication, social and emotional learning, special education, technology, transportation, and more.
Key decisions outlined in this plan include:
- Face coverings (masks or shields) required when physical distancing is not possible.
- Physical distancing will be practiced when feasible, it is not possible to expect 6 feet distancing at all times at school or on a bus.
- Students and staff must stay home when ill, wash hands frequently, and cover coughs or sneezes.
This continues to be a challenging and fluid situation for everyone, please contact me directly at 520-483-1562 or mbassett@pinalk12.org with questions, comments, or suggestions. I update the COVID-19 Resources webpage with any new information I receive.
We appreciate your patience and support and will continue to work diligently to prioritize the well-being of our students, families, and community.
Sincerely,
Marty Bassett
Superintendent
